This program provides students with learning opportunities to support diagnostic procedures by safely handling and processing biological specimens. Students will develop knowledge and skills in laboratory safety procedures, professional communication, and quality control, while gaining leading insights from industry professionals.
Important: This program is not approved under the British Columbia Society of Laboratory Science (BCSLS).

Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Mature student status
- High school graduate
English Language Proficiency Admission Requirements
Applicants must also meet the following English language requirements:
- English proficiency interview
- Grade 10 English with a C or higher
◉ Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this program, successful students will have reliably demonstrated the ability to:
- Explain core principles of anatomy and physiology related to laboratory testing.
- Identify common diagnostic tests and understand their purpose.
- Describe infection control and laboratory safety protocols.
- Understand workflows used in Canadian laboratory settings.
- Perform safe specimen handling using simulated blood, urine, and swab specimens.
- Operate basic laboratory equipment, including centrifuges, microscopes, and pipettes.
- Apply WHMIS, PPE, and laboratory safety procedures in a lab environment.
- Label, store, and transport specimens according to applicable standards.
- Demonstrate basic microscopy skills.
- Communicate professionally in healthcare environments.
