Choose the Right BC Pesticide Certification Category
British Columbia offers several pesticide certification categories for different types of pest management work, including:
- Agriculture – Pesticide application for agricultural production, including field crops, orchards, greenhouses and certain rodent management activities.
- Aerial – Pesticide application from helicopters or fixed-wing aircraft.
- Forestry – Pest management in forestry production, including weeds, insects and diseases.
- Fumigation – Pest management using fumigants in approved applications such as structures, containers, ships and grain facilities.
- Industrial Vegetation & Noxious Weed – Pesticide application for managing weeds and unwanted vegetation in industrial areas, rights-of-way, utility corridors and other non-agricultural sites.
- Landscape – Pesticide application for landscaped areas such as gardens, ornamental plants, lawns and turf.
- Mosquito – Management of mosquitoes and biting flies.
- Pesticide Dispenser – Selling pesticides through licensed retail outlets, with separate domestic and commercial categories.
- Structural – Pest management in, near or on structures, including a separate wood preservation category.
- Wood Preservation – Pesticide application for protecting wood products and structures from organisms that can cause deterioration, including fungi and wood-destroying insects.
The Province of British Columbia requires candidates to pass the appropriate certification examination for the category in which they wish to become certified. Each category has specific study materials and examination requirements.
